Hatch by Mirvac is our award-winning innovation program. It has been at the heart of Mirvac’s customer-centric approach since 2014. Hatch by Mirvac provides a strategic approach to innovation and ensures it is supported by a robust innovation process, funding, resources, and innovation strategy. With these structures and support in place, Mirvac has created a strong innovation culture and capability.

Our Hatch by Mirvac innovation program helps teams across the business to solve complex challenges by turning creative ideas into real solutions. We don't just brainstorm, we develop innovations strategically to give us a competitive edge.

The Process:

  • Hatch by Mirvac is supported by a rigorous innovation process to ensure a disciplined approach to thinking
  • We do not jump straight into ‘solution mode’ without understanding the problem to be solved, considering a range of alternative solutions, and testing ideas leanly and cheaply

Culture:

  • We have cultivated a culture where innovation is something everyone can engage with
  • We continue to work on creating a “safe to fail” environment – after all, to achieve great things we need to take risks
  • We are also building a culture that celebrates diversity of thinking and encourages diverse view points and perspectives
  • Hatch by Mirvac offers a range of innovation training programs for everyone at Mirvac, from our interns to senior executives. These programs help foster a strong innovation culture, empower teams to tackle challenges, and teach best practice approaches that put people at the heart of problem solving.

Case Studies

BUILDAI

BuildAI is a game-changing digital platform that uses cameras and technology to keep a constant eye on construction sites. Rather than manually monitoring the progression of a site, BuildAI uses smart cameras to watch everything that's happening. Born out of a mission to ‘radically revolutionise the way we build’, BuildAI is the result of our focus on strategically solving problems. This includes an initial scan, ideation, and product development. The concept was tested on our construction sites, funded through Mirvac Ventures, and then spun out of Mirvac as an independent start up, completing the journey from an internal innovation to commercialisation.

SOLAR

Over the last decade, electricity prices have more than doubled, making solar power an attractive option for many homeowners looking to cut costs and reduce their environmental impact. While millions of houses now have solar panels, apartment dwellers have been missing out due to the complex setup of multi-dwelling buildings.

To solve this problem, Mirvac partnered with Allume, an Australian company that's found a way to bring solar power to apartment buildings. Allume has developed a unique distribution technology, SOLSHARE, to allow residents of multi-dwelling buildings share one set of solar panels. Mirvac used this innovative technology at our Folia project in Doncaster. Now, residents in the prestige and penthouse apartments can all benefit from shared solar power, which helps lower their electricity bills and reduces their carbon footprint.

Mirvac acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters of Australia, and we offer our respect to their Elders past and present.
