Mirvac waste initiative cleans up at national awards
An innovative initiative which sees waste diverted from landfill, whilst supporting social inclusion has been recognised as the Social Procurement Impact Partnership of the Year – announced by Social Traders today
Since 2020, Mirvac has partnered with Green Connect, who provide waste services whilst providing employment opportunities to former refugees, to conduct over 40 waste audits across a number of our ACT and NSW assets.
Employing approximately 250 casual staff the program provides job opportunities for individuals facing significant barriers to employment, including refugees, young people, and Indigenous Australians.
The partnership has enabled Mirvac to gather data to make informed decisions to reduce our waste and progress toward our ambitious goal of zero waste to landfill by 2030.
Winning this award highlights the power of social procurement and the transformative potential of partnerships between large corporations and social enterprises.
Mirvac has not only integrated Green Connect into its operations but also advocated for broader adoption of social procurement practices, demonstrating the tangible benefits of social and environmental responsibility.
Together, Green Connect and Mirvac are setting a new standard for how businesses can deliver positive social impact while achieving their sustainability goals.
The Social Procurement Impact Partnership award recognises collaboration between certified social enterprises and business and government members that unlocked new opportunities and delivered social or environmental impact through social procurement.
