Milperra Campus Redevelopment

Mirvac and Western Sydney University have partnered to redevelop the University’s Milperra campus site into an innovative, sustainable community.

Mirvac and Western Sydney University have entered into a Project Development Agreement to redevelop the University’s Milperra campus site into one of Western Sydney’s most innovative and sustainable communities.

Stuart Penklis, Mirvac’s Head of Residential, said the site was a unique opportunity for Mirvac to work with the University in a coveted location to produce new homes as well as providing extensive community amenity.

“We are still in the early stages, but our vision is to create a connected network where we have a diversity of housing types, community gathering areas and an emphasis of green open spaces. This will be a walkable, smart and sustainable neighbourhood in a location that has varied public transport options, as well as cycle and pedestrian connections already entrenched,” he said.

“The University and Mirvac are committed in ensuring that the remnant Cumberland forest will be retained as an important part of the bushland character, but we will open it up to the public with walking trails and additional native plantings. This will be somewhere for the wider community to come to and enjoy the play areas, community gardens and parks.
“It is an exciting opportunity to apply Mirvac’s best-practice placemaking principles and continue to build on our reputation for design excellence.”

Mr Penklis said Mirvac and the University were looking forward to working with the community and the authorities to work towards a vibrant and connected neighbourhood that integrated into the surrounding area: “We will be running a number of community drop in sessions where we will be able to hear from the locals directly,” he said.

Peter Pickering from Western Sydney University said the University has undertaken extensive planning to assess options for the future of Milperra campus, working collaboratively with Mirvac to reach an outcome beneficial to both the University and the local community.

“We are delighted to work with Mirvac and its sustainable objectives in redeveloping the Milperra campus site that incorporates a multi-use development, as well as being a new liveable community,” Mr Pickering said.

“By repurposing the campus, the University will also build organisational capacity and develop new funding streams for our education and research. At the core of our Western Growth strategy is the establishment of new technologically-advanced vertical campuses in the heart of highly accessible and emerging growth centres within the Western Sydney region, and the repurposing of underutilised assets not required for academic uses to generate a corpus to reinvest into learning, teaching and research.

“We are also looking into opportunities to expand an educational presence on the site,” Mr Pickering said.
